The Paull family’s connection to furniture manufacturing in Los Angeles goes back a full century. The original family business was called Eastern Cabinet and Furniture Co / Paull Contract, founded by Alan Jay Paull’s grandfather in 1923.

In 1986, Taylor Chair acquired the family business. Following the acquisition, Alan Jay Paull served as president of Taylor Desk and was responsible for the design and engineering of all casegoods series.

When The Taylor Companies ceased operations on June 8, 2012, Alan Jay Paull took the opportunity to buy back the company his grandfather had started. On August 1, 2012, PAULL OFFICE began production in the existing 50,000 sq. ft. facility, using the same machinery, production methods, and the same skilled and experienced workforce. Their affiliation with the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters, Local 721, also continued.

As Alan Jay Paull put it at the time, this made Paull Office “an 89-year-old startup company.” The company remained committed to producing high-quality wood office furniture, made in America.

In terms of products, one of their lines — the Heritage series — was a stylish take on an 18th-century Chippendale design, crafted in American Walnut solids and veneers, offering an array of free-standing and modular components suited to current work environments.
